POSITION:                            RN SUPERVISOR

STATUS:                              FULL / PART TIME

DEPARTMENT:                     CLINICAL SERVICES

 HOURS OF WORK:               VARIED SHIFTS


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Assesses the health status of residents by interviews, observations and data collection to determine care requirements.  Completes necessary documentation.

2.      Obtains medical advice when needed. Accompanies physicians and specialists during in Home consultations and rounds.  Processes doctor’s orders and obtains necessary medications and treatments.  Arranges transfer to hospital for medical intervention when determined appropriate.

3.      Informs resident and/or next-of-kin/Power of Attorney of changes in plan of care and alterations in treatments and medications. 

4.      Supervises & continually assesses need and provides education to staff regarding all aspects of resident care.  Prepares and presents educational in-services to staff.  Completes staff performance appraisals annually.

5.      Receives, checks and records medications from the pharmacy for all units on a daily basis. 

6.      Performs specialized procedures and clinical care.  Evaluates and documents effectiveness.

7.      Maintains ongoing communication with residents, families, other staff and other departments regarding all aspects of resident care.

8.      Assumes the role of Administrator in the event of an emergency within the Home and acts as a liaison between emergency personnel until relieved by the Administrator or Director of Clinical Services.

9.      Ensures adequate staffing levels by maintaining unit shift schedules and call in documentation, replacement and reallocation, authorization of overtime.  Relays messages concerning staff absences to other departments.

10.  Acts as a role model for staff by maintaining professional conduct and adhering to the College of Nurses Standards of Practice.

11.  Promotes a positive public image and is available to assist the general public and community organizations within the Home.

12.. Promotes a safe environment by monitoring and reporting unusual incidents.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Registered Nurse with current certificate of competence from College of Nurses of Ontario

·        Demonstrated leadership skills and expertise in written and verbal communication

·      Demonstrates regular attendance in keeping with the Cassellholme Attendance Management Standards.

POSITION:                             R.P.N.         

STATUS:                               FULL/PART-TIME   

DEPARTMENT:                      CLINICAL SERVICES

HOURS OF WORK:                 VARIED SHIFTS

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

        1.       Responsible to the Registered Nurse in charge for reporting the general physical and mental condition of residents and any relevant signs, symptoms or changes.

          2.       Assist in the development of self-help programs which encourage residents to re-acquire or maintain competence in activities of daily living.

          3.       Provides direct personal care to residence through assistance with cleanliness, grooming, rest, nourishment, elimination, diversional therapy, etc.

          4.       Provides indirect care including recording of temperatures, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, preparation of unit for new admissions, etc.

          5.       Maintenance of an attractive and comfortable environment for the residents with special consideration given to cleanliness, ventilation, lighting, repairs, supplies, and safety, etc.

          6.       Responsible for understanding the nature of human relations that exists among and between residents, their families, friends and staff.

          7.       Administers prescribed medication to residents according to the Standards of Nursing Practice for R.P.N.'s.

          8.       Performs bladder catheterization using aseptic technique.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

          Must be registered as a Practical Nurse with the Ontario College of Nurses.

          Successful completion of an approved community college course in medication administration.

          Successful completion of Bladder Catheterization Program.

          Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of the elderly and their families.

          A cheerful, courteous and caring manner is essential

          Must be prepared to assume responsibility for personal growth and development through:

Ø    Available courses, conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings.

Ø    Membership and participation in local and/or provincial Registered Nursing Assistants Association.

Ø    Attendance at and participation in Home-In-Service education.

Ø    Demonstrates regular attendance in keeping with the Cassellholme Attendance Management Standards.

Ø    Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of the elderly and their families.

POSITION:                                     HEALTH CARE AIDE

STATUS:                                        FULL/PART-TIME              

DEPARTMENT:                               CLINICAL SERVICES

HOURS OF WORK:                         VARIED SHIFTS

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

            1.         Provides direct nursing care to residents i.e.: bathing, grooming, feeding, etc.

            2.         Reports changes in resident condition (physical and emotional) to nurse in charge.

            3.         Maintains records of care provided.

            4.         Communicates effectively with residents, their families and staff.

5.         Provides a safe clean environment for residents using

                                    - proper body mechanics

                                    - safe lifting/transferring techniques

                                    - the principles of infection control

            6.         Participates in personal growth.

            7.         Performs other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Ø      Successful completion of Health Care Aide Program or equivalent.
